EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA BOB GENTER WINS!!!!! |
|
By Mags Bonham The April 5th meeting of the Green Mountain Mashers determined the winner of the annual Club Competition. This year’s challenge focused on the Schwarzbier style. Longtime member and former President Bob Gentry’s entry rose to the top of a gaggle of competing entries. When asked what wining the Challenge means Bob said "I am very honored to have won the Masher Challenge. We have some great brewers in the club who entered a Schwarzbier in this competition. In addition to the warm camaraderie and respect that we have for each other as brewers, regular events like the Masher Challenge and the Trub Trek have continued to make the Green Mountain Mashers an outstanding club for beer enthusiasts."
The Masher Challenge is a Club Competition held each year. The style to be brewed is picked by the previous year’s winner. All Club members are challenged to make the perfect version of the style which is judged in a similar fashion as in an official beer competition. The Schwarzbier style for the 2010 Challenge was picked by Mrs. Monk, |

Bob is already thinking about next year’s challenge. “I have a couple of ideas for the next beer for the Masher Challenge, and I’ll decide in the next few weeks. I am thinking of a style that is challenging but within the capability of simple brewing systems (and that won’t contaminate our systems with bugs like Brettanomyces!).”
